English Version ⬇️

🚨 先把市场打开,后面再慢慢完善;

🚨 先活下来,再解决其他问题;

⚠️ 对当地法规了解不足,影响品牌信誉;

⚠️ 忽略文化差异,没有回应消费者真正关心的问题;

UK Retail Insight #01 | One Thing Many Brands Underestimate About the UK Market: Trust

After 12 years of running a retail business in the UK, I've made my fair share of mistakes and learned some valuable lessons from them. Looking back, I've realised that many of the challenges brands face in the UK aren't caused by poor products or limited investment. More often, they're the result of underestimating one thing: trust.

When entering a new market, it's natural to think:

🚨 Let's get into the market first and improve as we grow.

🚨 Right now, survival comes first. We can optimise later.

🚨 Our business model has already worked elsewhere, so it should work here too.

👉 I completely understand this way of thinking. Building a business is always about balancing time, cost and opportunity. There are no perfect decisions,only decisions that make sense for the stage your business is in.

👉 I also understand that many brands aren't ignoring the risks. Funding, investor expectations and competitive pressure often leave them with difficult choices.

But the UK market is different in one important way: Being a new brand doesn't lower people's expectations. Customers expect you to meet local standards from day one. So do landlords, business partners and regulators.

That's why I've come to believe that, in the UK, compliance is about much more than following rules. It's about building trust.

In my experience, many of the challenges brands face later on can often be traced back to small decisions made in the early stages, such as:

⚠️ Not fully understanding local regulations.

⚠️ Overlooking cultural differences and customer expectations.

⚠️ Growing faster than the business is operationally ready to support.

One lesson I've learned is this: Expanding into a new market isn't about repeating what made you successful before. It's about understanding the local market, adapting as you grow, and earning trust one step at a time.

👉 Because real success isn't simply entering the UK market. it's becoming a brand that UK consumers choose again and again.
